It can get overwhelming when you're ready to ditch the synthetic fragrances & begin the journey of creating delicious pure-fumes, trust me I've been there!

So now i want to help YOU get to know the basics so you too can blend like a boss!

Now remember, because we are using the purest essential oils & nothing else, you're going to find yourself reapplying every couple hours or so. WHY? because an all natural, unadulterated product doesn't hold "phthalates", which are found in your regular fragrances. Phthalates help to make a scent last longer and stick to you, you'll notice that even after a good wash some fragrances are still present.

The word "fragrance" is a cover up of over a hundred unregulated chemicals that companies refer to as "Trade Secrets" & we definitely don't want these anywhere near our bodies.

OK, so now we know the importance of ditching & switching to a natural PURE-fume. Here’s the lowdown on how you can choose what essential oils work together & the importance of TOP, MIDDLE and BASE notes.

TOP NOTES - are the first oils to evaporate (usually within 30min) but also the first aromatics we smell. Your top notes have a light & airy profile.

MIDDLE NOTES - last around 1-3 hours & are the next to evaporate. Middle notes hold the main scent or "body" of the pure-fume, the profile of the middle notes can be soft & are usually used to round out the blend.

BASE NOTES - last the longest (up to several hours or sometimes more) they give depth to the blend & have a profile that is warm, soothing & relaxing. 

*Perfumes are mostly comprised of top, middle & base notes.

Essential oils can fall within one note, between the notes or within two notes. 

HOW DO I CHOOSE MY OILS FOR EACH CATEGORY?

Below are some of our favourite notes for blending

TOP NOTES - Basil, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Coriander, Eucalyptus, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lemongrass, Lime, Wild Orange, Peppermint, Petitgrain, Spearmint, Tangerine, Tea Tree & Wintergreen.

MIDDLE NOTES - Black Pepper, cardamom, Cilantro, Cypress, Douglas Fir, Fennel, Geranium, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Marjoram, Melissa, Oregano, Roman Chamomile, Rosemary, Spikenard, Thyme & Siberian Fir.

BASE NOTES - Arborvitae, Blue Tansy, Cassia, Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Copaiba, Frankincense, Ginger, Helichrysum, Jasmine, Myrrh, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver & Ylang Ylang.

HOW MUCH DO I ADD OF EACH?

5-20% top notes

50-80% middle notes

5-20% base notes

Then top with your favourite carrier oil (i love to creating magic in either a 5ml or 10ml roller bottle), i recommend using fractionated coconut oil as it's light, odourless & wont interfere with the aromatics of the blend. Then i like to pretty up our roller bottles with some dried petals. Did you know petals are a great addition, not only atheistically but they provide soft aromatics & have a soothing effect on our skin & our emotions.

Break down each blend to see how much it cost's to create (I dare you), you'll come to realise that essential oils are not as expensive as you may think & you wont want to fork out an arm & a leg for a commercial perfume ever again!

Remember, using small amounts of essential oils often is far more beneficial than slapping on a large amount every now & then. Remember this ‘a little often, instead of a lot less’
