Solid Moisturising Bars
If you’re anything like me, you love a decadent, nourishing moisturiser but struggle to find anything that’s good for you AND good for the earth, as we’re all well aware how much plastic those things come in. That’s why I’m excited to share the recipe for my gorgeous Solid Moisturising Bars. They’re just like your favourite moisturiser, only they're solid and generate far less waste 🙌🏼
Ingredients
50g Fractionated Coconut Oil
50g Shea Butter
25g Beeswax
20 Drops of Essential Oil (optional)
Method
- Combine fractionated coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in a bowl and heat until completely melted. You can do this in a thermomix (5 minutes, speed 1 at 70 degrees) or in the microwave in short bursts monitoring not to burn the ingredients.
- Add essential oils and stir to ensure the oils are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
- Pour mixture into moulds and place into freezer to set (setting the mixture in the freezer reduces the chance of the bars developing a grainy texture).
- Allow to set for at least 1 hour before unmoulding, store individually or stack in between baking sheets.
In house tip; I like to use tiny moulds and store the bars in individual 20g jars so I can keep one in my handbag. This allows you to keep the bar on you without introducing the need for anything to bulky. The airtight jar will also protect the bar from spoiling. Essential oils i like to use for this recipe are lavender, tea tree, frankincense and geranium.
To use
Rub the bar directly onto your skin when you need a hydration boost for smooth, supple skin. The bar will be firmer during the cooler months and softer when the weather is warmer, keep this in mind when you’re deciding where you store your bars. You may want to use a jar or container during the summer months.
